Devon reflections
2026 -
England, UK
It’s been more than a year since I moved permanently to Devon. Possibly the best move I’ve made in ages - if ever!
Before that, I lived in London for over 40 years, and have always sought nature in my surroundings, whether that’s along the canal corriders of the city, the big parks like Hampstead Heath, Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes or Epping Forest, or simply being aware of the birds and insects in my garden.
There were of course, large groups of foxes that kept me awake night after night which I do not miss, nor do I miss the incessant cooing of pigeons in the day. Some noises I just find irritating. Horse flies are another!
Now that I am here, my awareness of and engagement with nature has grown.
