When the sea beckons

Metaphorically, it is said that “people fail to see the bigger picture in things.”

My view is that we often fail to see how awesome the smaller things in life are, full of wonder.

I believe we just need to take the time to sit down and look at things, without the distraction of our phones or other people around. The more time you spend actually looking at things, the more they reveal themselves in ways that you don’t expect.

I personally get a lot of joy from picking up pebbles and shells and turning them over in the palm of my hand. It brings me closer to my own memories of the sea.

I have left these studies vague in the hope that others will fill in the gaps with your own memories.

All these studies were made in acrylic, in quick brush strokes and marks made using found metal objects from the beach to convey the texture and roughness of each shell.

Each of these original paintings can be purchased via my store front on Saatchi Art.
